Stoneboat Needs Your Support

Personally, I think Stoneboat is one of Wisconsin's finest multi-genre literary journals...but then, I'm biased. You would probably prefer to decide that for yourself. It's easy enough to do-- just hop on over to the featured work section of our website to peruse poetry, prose, and art from the fall issue. (We've also got several online exclusives for your reading pleasure, including a poem from Spring 2011 contributor KP Liles).

If you like what you read, please consider purchasing a copy. Stoneboat is not funded by a college or university, nor do we have any fancy-pants grants to keep us afloat. We started the journal with money from our own pockets and an envelope of cash that an anonymous donor slid under my office door. (Thank you, anonymous donor!)

Three issues later, we're still running on fumes. Our bank account has a negative balance. (Well, not really. The editors pitched in some of their personal funds to cover the cost of the last printing to avoid that scary scenario, but we're definitely in the red.) If you appreciate what we do, and if you think it's important to have small literary journals in the world -- or in your corner of the world if you're from east central Wisconsin -- then we need your support. Rob's wife will eventually tell him that feeding their children, heating their house, and repaying their student loans are more worthy uses of the family funds than publishing poetry, and that will spell the end of Stoneboat.*

If you haven't already purchased a copy of the new issue, don't worry -- there are plenty of ways for you to get your hands on it. You can always subscribe through our website; it's quick and easy, and we even take credit cards. But if you're more of an I-like-to-pick-it-up-in-person kind of person (or an I-don't-want-to-pay-for-postage person), Stoneboat is also available at these locations:
You can also pick up the issue at the Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets conference next weekend, October 28-30, at the Great Lakes Writers Festival November 3-4, or at our issue release reading on November 5th.

If you're a subscriber or contributor, you'll have your copy very soon because we mailed them on Monday morning (and just about had a heart attack when we realized how expensive postage is). Happy reading, everyone, and if you're so inclined, buy an extra copy and give it to a friend. Or donate to a worthy cause. Do what you can to help us to keep our stone boat afloat.

*Actually, Carrie has been nothing but supportive of this endeavor of ours. She even feeds us when we invade her kitchen.
